David completed his training in Melbourne and qualified as an orthopaedic surgeon in 1978. He gained further experience over the next two years in England and Europe. He worked at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, England and then worked with Sir John Charnley (the developer of the modern day hip replacement) at Wrightington Hospital in England. He also worked in Graz in Austria.

He has been established in private practice in Melbourne since 1980. For the first ten years he worked as a consultant at the Alfred Hospital and also worked for shorter periods at The Royal Children’s Hospital and Repatriation General Hospital.

David now specialises in orthopaedic surgery of the lower limb with particular emphasis on hip resurfacing, hip and knee replacement surgery, unicompartmental knee replacement surgery and arthroscopic surgery of the knee. He performs between two hundred and fifty and three hundred joint replacements a year and regularly visits other centres, especially in the United States, to update himself with the latest techniques available.

He is co-founder of the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group and a founding member and past Federal President of the Arthroplasty Society of Australia, a group of about fifty orthopaedic surgeons from nation wide with a special interest and expertise in hip and knee replacement surgery.

David is also a passionate supporter of the Bombers and a keen golfer.
