
David completed his training in Melbourne and
qualified as an orthopaedic surgeon in 1978. He gained
further experience over the next two years in England
and Europe. He worked at the Royal Sussex County
Hospital in Brighton, England and then worked with Sir
John Charnley (the developer of the modern day hip
replacement) at Wrightington Hospital in England. He
also worked in Graz in Austria.
He has been established in private practice in Melbourne
since 1980. For the first ten years he worked as a
consultant at the Alfred Hospital and also worked for
shorter periods at The Royal Children’s Hospital and
Repatriation General Hospital.
David now specialises in orthopaedic surgery of the
lower limb with particular emphasis on hip resurfacing,
hip and knee replacement surgery, unicompartmental knee
replacement surgery and arthroscopic surgery of the
knee. He performs between two hundred and fifty and
three hundred joint replacements a year and regularly
visits other centres, especially in the United States,
to update himself with the latest techniques available.
He is co-founder of the
Melbourne Orthopaedic Group and a founding member
and past Federal President of the Arthroplasty Society
of Australia, a group of about fifty orthopaedic
surgeons from nation wide with a special interest and
expertise in hip and knee replacement surgery.
David is also a passionate supporter of the Bombers and
a keen golfer.
